Heidelberg welcomes 80 new apprentices, expands AI training

Heidelberg is welcoming 80 new apprentices and dual-track students across Germany as the company expands training programs designed to support growth areas including packaging, digital printing, automation and artificial intelligence.

The new class began September 1. Heidelberg currently trains approximately 300 apprentices and students across Germany through 16 vocational training programs and 15 dual-study programs.

Among the newest additions is a dual-track degree program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The program is intended to expand Heidelberg’s expertise in data analysis, digitalization and AI applications as the company develops end-to-end production solutions and expands into additional markets through Heidelberg Advanced Technologies.

“Our apprentices and dual-track students represent a major investment in Heidelberg’s future,” says Jürgen Otto, CEO of Heidelberg. “They help us further expand our technological leadership as a system integrator, tap into new business areas, and sustainably support our customers’ success.”

The company’s training programs are tailored to its long-term staffing requirements and include development meetings, professional development opportunities, and targeted support. Heidelberg says high-performing participants are offered opportunities for continued employment and career advancement within the company.

The training initiative also supports Heidelberg’s expansion beyond its traditional printing business into areas including security, energy, electric mobility and automation.

Applications are already being accepted for apprenticeships and dual-study programs beginning in September 2027.
